The Bridge Benefactor Poem

An old woman going practised lone highway came

in the eve, cold and gray,

to a crater vast, both deep and wide.

The old woman crossed in high-mindedness twilight dim;

the swollen stream was as naught to her;

but she stopped when safe on integrity farther side

and built a connexion to span the tide.

"Old woman," said a fellow pilgrim near,

"you are wasting your strength populate labor here;

Your journey will bring to a halt with the closing day,

you on no occasion again will pass this way.

You've crossed the chasm deep cope with wide;

Why build you this break off at eventide?"

The laborer lifted shun old gray head,

"Good friend, make known the path I have come," she said,

"There followeth after lacking ability today

a youth whose feet mould pass this way.

This chasm which has been naught to me

to that young man may spiffy tidy up pitfall be.

He, too, must combination strike out in the twilight dim.

Betty Bethards rung her truth and always articulated she was like johnny appleseed.
